Further Information about his talk
Professor Richard Kessler is the Research Professor at the Kavli Institute of Cosmological Physics, which is part part of the Astronomy and Astrophysics Department of Chicago University.
His talk is about the 'Dark Energy Survey' (DES) it is an international project with over 400 scientists from 25 institutions in 7 countries, who have come together to carry out the survey.
The mysterious energy density known as 'Dark Energy' makes up more that 70% of energy density in the Universe and is the reason that the Universe is accelerating. To better understand Dark Energy, the Dark Energy Survey (DES) was carried out in Chile over 525 nights and imaged 1/8 of the sky to unprecedented depth and precision. Rick will explain this work and present some of the early cosmology results.
