| We typically get together between 7.30 pm and 8.00 pm at a Church Hall in Ravensmoor which has the benefit of being in close proximity to a reasonably dark site (and licensed premises in the event of inclement weather) - I'll send out an email a couple of days in advance to finalise details depending on the weather forecast.
If it's cloudy then we can just have a chat about all things astronomical - we have a wide spread of experience so don't be afraid to ask a question - somebody in the group will be able to answer! |
If it's clear, then we'll do some observing. If you have any equipment (even an old pair of binoculars) then please feel free to bring them along. Don't worry if you don't have anything - there is lots to see with the naked eye and there will be people there to guide you around the night sky. |
| Links | If it is clear then please don't forget to dress warmly - clear skies normally mean cold nights and nothing dampens the enthusiasm faster than freezing to death! A jumper, warm jacket, hat, gloves and warm boots or shoes should do the trick (we're an astronomy society, not fashion club). A flask of hot tea or coffee will also keep the cold at bay. A deckchair / sunlounger, if you are able to bring one along, will allow you to observe in comfort without craning your neck. |
